I have found Ayaan Hirsi Ali's  Heretic to be indispensable for Contemporary Understanding of Islamic Fundamentalism .

I hesitate to include al-Ghazali's   On The Duties Of Brotherhood  translated by Muhtar Holland  because he [ al-Ghazali ] has received acrimony from Writers I cherish.  However, I resonate with his Teaching.
