Introspection begins with Questions. Zen Introspection begins with "Who am I ?". Beginning students are unfairly aghast when they answer with "Name or Form". Name and Form just won't 'do'. Zen Master use the true Nature of Self-Existence to dislodge Obstinacy from students who INSIST they are their parents' offspring. Zen Masters query, "What did you look like before you were born ?"
